Practice Philosophy

Houghton Close Surgery is a semi-rural, dispensing, nGMS, training practice in mid-Bedfordshire with 10,100 patients.

We are a dynamic, hard-working team whose aim is to provide high quality patient centered care. The partnership is supportive and cohesive and we have a full compliment of enthusiastic team members.

All partners have an equal say in practice matters and innovation and change is decided through discussion and debate at regular business meetings.

We provide a comprehensive range of medical services to our patients as well as meeting targets for the New Contract.

Development of special interests are supported and encouraged.

We hold an annual “away day” to discuss and plan future needs of the practice.

 

Practice Area

The surgery is situated in Ampthill which is a pretty Georgian market town. The practice also looks after many of the surrounding villages.

Ampthill is an attractive place to live with all the necessary amenities including excellent schooling, local leisure centre and access to major shopping Centres.

The area is much sought after due to its ease of commuting – the M1 (Junction 12), and London via the train stations in Harlington, Flitwick and the closeness of London Luton Airport.

 

Premises

The surgery is an impressive purpose-built PFI building constructed in 2002. It comprises of 8 consulting rooms, a nursing suite including treatment, minor illness and phlebotomy rooms. All partners have their own dedicated consulting room.

The waiting room has a children’s play area and reception area with the dispensary adjacent. The upstairs administration area houses the Practice Manager, Office Manager, Admin staff, Secretaries, IT Administrator and Summarisers. In addition there is a coffee room, large meeting room and library.

• Coronary Heart Disease Clinnics

• Phlebotomy

• Anticoagulation Clinics

• Travel Clinic

• Full Family Planning, including IUCD insertion

• Minor Injuries Enhanced Service

• Chronic Disease Monitoring Enhanced Service

• In-house Counselling Service

• GPwSI Dermatology Clinic
